Centering Survivors: Aligning, Enhancing, & Innovating Services with Survivor-Stated Needs
Providing survivor-driven, survivor-centered services for the purposes of finding self-defined healing, justice, and wellness cannot be done without engaging diverse groups of survivors in decision-making and systems-changing processes. Imagine and create a new world of innovative services that holistically address survivors’ wants and needs within the realm of community-based sexual assault programs. This workshop is adapted from its first iteration presented at the 2022 National Sexual Assault Conference.
"I Was Turned Away by Every Organization That Was Supposed to Help": Institutional & Community Betrayal
While the act of sexual assault alone is harmful enough to survivors, their health and well-being outcomes are compounded by the response they receive from organizations in the community that allege to support survivors. This workshop is designed to discuss the harms of institutional and community betrayal while also sharing ways for organizations to ensure that their response is helpful and supportive- not another harmful roadblock on a survivor's journey forward.

An introduction to sexual violence that goes beyond the statistics and discusses its harmful impact, dispels common myths, and gives in-depth perspective on how this impacts people, families, communities, and our society as a whole.
